Nipple Piercing FAQs
Are Nipple Piercings Painful?
The amount of pain from nipple piercings will depend on your pain tolerance. You will either feel a slight pinch or feel extremely comfortable, but either way, it will only be brief.
Also, expect the site to be tender for a few days. However, the real pain will only last during the actual piercing process.
How Long Do Nipple Piercings Take to Heal?
The healing process for nipple piercings will be quite long. Generally, this takes about nine months to one year to heal completely.
You will most likely have some bleeding for the first week or so. Also, expect to have some of that crusty whitish-yellow fluid surrounding the jewelry, similar to a healing cut. This is completely normal.
Can I Change My Nipple Piercing Right Away, or Do I Have to Wait?
You will need to wait until your piercing has fully healed before changing your jewelry. This is a precautionary step to prevent you from damaging, irritating or introducing infection into your piercing.
However, if your jewelry is too short (becomes embedded into your skin) or too long (catching on clothing), contact your piercer at Tattoo Consortium immediately and we can insert jewelry that’s a better fit for you.
How Much Do Nipple Piercings Cost?

Our piercing artists here at Tattoo Consortium will recommend cleaning details, depending on the type of nipple piecing. This typically involves applying a saline solution 2-3 times per day.
How Do I Prepare for My Nipple Piercing Session?
When preparing for your nipple piercing session with Tattoo Consortium, take the make sure you are:
- well rested
- well hydrated
- have eaten recently
Other than that, take a shower and charge your phone or tablet up to full. Also, don’t bring too many people.
What Do I Wear for My Nipple Piercing Session?
It’s more important to be comfortable than to be fashionable.
Looser clothing is better than tighter clothing.
I Have Inverted Nipples, Can I Still Get Them Pierced?
Yes! In fact, many people get their inverted nipples pierced to help bring the nipple forward to a more prominent position.
However, we recommend discussing this fully with your piercer here at Tattoo Consortium. This way you are fully aware of what to expect.
Can I Breastfeed with a Nipple Piercing?
Nipple piercings shouldn’t affect your ability to successfully breastfeed. However, in some cases, the piercing may lead to blocked milk ducts or a reduced milk flow, which can make feeding more difficult.
In the interests of safety, remove any jewelry from the are while nursing, as the jewelry poses a choking hazard and can make it difficult for the infant. Many breastfeeding mothers opt to wear barbell style jewelry, as it easier to remove and insert than a BCR.
